Day 1

Nare Muru Gate to Simba Camp (7 km | 3-4 hrs | Rainforest)

Drive from Moshi/Arusha to the Kilimanjaro Gate, then trek through lush rainforest to Simba Camp, with views of the Kenyan plains.

Elevation: 1997m to 2635m | Altitude gained: 638m

Day 2

Simba Camp to Second Cave Camp (5.8 km | 5-6 hrs | Moorland)

Ascend through moorland, enjoying views of Kibo and the ice fields.

Elevation: 2635m to 3487m | Altitude gained: 852m

Day 3

Second Cave Camp to Kikelewa Camp (5.95 km | 2-3 hrs | Semi Desert)

Continue toward Mawenzi, acclimatizing as you go.

Elevation: 3487m to 3675m | Altitude gained: 188m

Day 4

Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn (3.75 km | 3-4 hrs | Semi Desert)

Climb to Mawenzi Tarn beneath Mawenzi peaks for acclimatization.

Elevation: 3487m to 4302m | Altitude gained: 627m

Day 5

Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut (8.9 km | 4-5 hrs | Alpine Desert)

Cross the saddle to Kibo, preparing for summit night.

Elevation: 4302m to 4714m | Altitude gained: 412m

Day 6

Kibo Hut to Summit to Horombo Huts (4 km up | 5-7 hrs | Glaciers | 15.75 km down | 5-6 hrs)

Summit to Uhuru Peak, then descend to Horombo Huts.

Elevation: 4302m to 5895m (Summit) | Altitude gained: 721m | Descent: 2174m

Day 7

Horombo Huts to Marangu Gate to Moshi (20 km | 6-7 hrs | Rainforest)

Descend through the rainforest, returning to Moshi/Arusha.

Elevation: 3721m to 1905m | Altitude lost: 1816m
